FAQs

Closed Testing lets you release your Android app to a limited group of users before the full public release. This helps you gather feedback, test app stability, and fix bugs with selected testers.

In your Google Play Console:

  1. Go to Release > Testing > Closed testing

  2. Choose an existing track or create a new one

  3. Upload your APK or App Bundle

  4. Under Testers, add their Gmail addresses or share an opt-in link

Testers must:

  • Have a Google account (Gmail)

  • Accept the opt-in invitation link or be added by email

  • Use the same Gmail account on their Play Store to download the app

Yes. You can remove a tester from your email list or disable the opt-in link to prevent new testers from joining.

There is no official limit, but for email-based closed testing, it’s best to keep the list under 2,000 users. If you need more, use open testing or share a link with a limited audience.

After uploading and publishing the closed test version, testers usually see the app in the Play Store within 1 to 2 hours, but it may take up to 48 hours in rare cases.

Yes, but their reviews are only visible to the developer and not the public. You can find them in the “User feedback” section in Google Play Console.

Make sure:

  • They’re using the correct Gmail account

  • They accepted the opt-in link

  • The app is published (not in draft)

  • The testing version is compatible with their device

Yes, you can reuse the same closed testing track by updating the app and managing the tester list, or you can create separate tracks for different groups (e.g., internal vs. external testers).

Yes. Once a tester has opted in and installed the app, all new closed testing updates will be delivered through the Play Store just like normal app updates.
